Doping doc finds buyers

Broadcasters in Poland and Finland have picked up a documentary about doping in sport ahead of the 2012 London Olympics.

UK distributor Mercury Media has sold The War on Doping to TVP2 in Poland and MTV3 in Finland.

The film, produced by Sweden’s Matine Film, looks at efforts to root out drug cheats in sport and recounts famous examples, including the Ben Johnson scandal at the 1988 Olympics.

The documentary will premiere in Paris in aid of the United Nations Educational, Scientific & Cultural Organisation, which funds anti-drugs initiatives in sport. It will also be shown to the International Olympic Committee in London in July.

In related news, Mercury has sold another of its sports docs to US-backed Middle Eastern broadcaster Alhurra TV.

Salaam Dunk is a doc from Seedwell Films that was selected for the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam and examines the exploits of an Iraqi women’s basketball team.
