‘The Four Year Plan’ sells in Scandinavia; Released on UK DVD
Viasat in Sweden and Finland’s MTV have picked up a one-off documentary about a destitute London football club bought by multi-millionaires.
The Four Year Plan follows the fortunes of Queens Park Rangers after the club was saved from bankruptcy by Formula 1 moguls Flavio Briatore and Bernie Ecclestone, steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal and his son-in-law Amit Bhatia.
The takeover immediately gave the West London club the richest board of directors in world football, but the documentary, produced by indie Ad Hoc Films and directed by Mat Hodgson, reveals the farcical reality.
Viasat and MTV have picked up the doc, which previously aired on BBC2 in the UK and TV2 in Norway, from UK distributor Mercury Media. The 90-minute film was released on DVD in the UK with 12 deleted scenes earlier this week.
The Four Year Plan won best documentary film at the Marbella Film Festival last year and was also shown at International Documentary Festival Amsterdam. It has been selected for screening at next month’s Sheffield Doc/Fest.
Mercury Chief Executive Tim Sparke commented: “The Four Year Plan gives viewers unprecedented access into one of Britain’s best known football clubs. Since QPR are seen regularly across the globe as members of the Premier League we know this film will have global appeal to fans of the beautiful game”.
