MIPDOC NEWS: MercuryMedia-backed video portal Joining The Docs is here in Cannes looking for funding and content to launch French and German versions of its docs-on-demand site within three years.
Joining The Docs MD Nick Ware said the site had already landed €200,000 from the EU MEDIA digital distribution fund to develop a platform that showcases the best international documentary making.
He added that he is now seeking further investment and content to take forward what he termed “ambitious plans” to launch German- and French-language versions of the video portal in the next three years.
“2009 is the year in which online video will really take off,” said Ware. “As audiences seek out documentaries that are increasingly marginalised on television, Joining The Docs will be a trusted guide to the very best, showcasing both award winners and hidden gems.”
Joining The Docs (fka Joiningthedots.tv) is wholly-owned by factual distributor MercuryMedia, which is here at MipDoc launching 10 new titles. Among them are French title The Empire State Building Murders, Wild Art: Olly & Suzy from BBC Storyville and Pride & Privilege from BBC Scotland.
