Mercury, ITN bring “N2K” to Alhurra
UK-based distributor MercuryMedia has inked a deal with Washington DC-based Middle Eastern broadcaster Alhurra TV for N2K, an ITN-produced magazine show, which will air in the Middle East from January 2012.
The deal marks Mercury’s first move into magazine shows. Made by UK-based ITN (Independent Television News), the show will feature the most talked about stories from across the web, and in the Twittersphere in a weekly half-hour format.
Alhurra broadcasts news and information programming to millions of viewers across the Middle East and North Africa. In addition to discussion programs that examine political and social issues, the network also provides information on a variety of topic such as health, science, technology and sports and entertainment news.
Mercury CEO Tim Sparke said: “Winning a first deal for N2K with Alhurra is really exciting, especially as they are keen to work with us and our production partners ITN to shape the show. Events in the Middle East have been profoundly affected by the internet and social media and N2K will reflect the latest trends in this space. We are confident that the show will win orders from other broadcasters at Mipcom.”
Mark Kozaki, Alhurra’s Program Acquisition and Scheduling Officer, added: “N2K is a perfect fit with Alhurra’s commitment to social media, both on the air and through its social media platforms.”
